How an AI voice agent works on a call
Every turn of the call goes through four stages. Speech recognition writes down what the caller said. A language model reads it alongside the agent's instructions and decides the reply. Text-to-speech says the reply out loud. Then the agent acts: it saves an outcome, sends a webhook or transfers the call.
Here's a reminder call from a lender, Northwind Finance:
- Agent: "Namaste Rohit ji, main Northwind Finance ki AI assistant bol rahi hoon. Aapki EMI 5 tareekh ko due hai."
- Rohit: "Haan, but salary 7th ko aayegi."
- Agent: "Koi baat nahi. Main 7 tareekh note kar leti hoon aur payment link WhatsApp par bhej deti hoon."
The agent heard a reason for the delay, turned it into a new date and logged a promise to pay, with nobody from the lender on the line.
Why it matters
Indian businesses run on the phone: new leads, EMI reminders, order confirmations, support. An agent can work through a whole list inside your calling window, pick up your number at 2 am and capture the same details on every call. Your team then spends its time on the calls that need judgement.
AI voice agents in Kallix
In the agent studio you start from a template or describe the agent in plain words, then set its first message, objective, script and FAQs, pick a voice and attach a knowledge base. Every Kallix agent says it's an AI assistant in its first line and offers a person on request. For the longer version, read our guide to AI voice agents →
